Christmas Songs
Recently I was asked why I still love Christmas when I'm no longer "religious". One of the first reasons which came to mind was because I love Christmas music. I think it is great that once a year we get to listen to old favorites which bring back pleasant memories. I can share my enjoyment and my memories with those few who are still in my life who were there from the start and also with those who have come into my life along the way. There's a continuity to celebrating the holidays - and whether you celebrate Christmas as a religious holiday or as a secular one, all of us are celebrating life and love and hope.
Benney and I noticed last year that we no longer hear any of the Christmas carols when we are shopping. We hear lots of Christmas songs and winter songs but the carols have gone back into the churches. That's too bad. Most of the carols were written long, long ago and it's good to be reminded of our past and of our heritage and to hear great music.
